One of the first things we get asked is ‘what will the assessments be like in your
course, if I do it online?’
This is a great question! When doing the course online, you will be required to organise and conduct training sessions and conduct assessments of your students. It is the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment – so this makes sense.
You will also be required to complete some written assessments through the Accellier learning platform.
As part of the course, you will be required to deliver training sessions; design, develop and plan training; and conduct assessment validation.
The TAE40122 involves planning and delivering various types of training. You will need
to deliver training that is face-to-face and in-person to an adult cohort.
The training you deliver must be based on nationally recognised training products.
The Certificate IV in Training and Assessment is designed for Australia’s Vocational Education and Training (VET) system. It’s a competency-based education system, and is based on thousands of nationally agreed units of competency. These are available on Training.gov.au.
Here are some examples:
As you can see there are many thousands of units covering most industries in Australia.
You will learn more about these as part of your Certificate IV in Training and Assessment!
You will need to deliver:
For most students, the sessions will be conducted in their workplace or community and be recorded using a phone or other video recorder. This means you are responsible for sourcing your learners.
You will need 5 learners in total, and would then upload the recordings to the Accellier learning platform, and the assessor will assess the training sessions.
Some other types of training sessions are required too, including:
It’s not uncommon for workplace learning to include a mentorship strategy. So you may be able to combine the above two lots 3 x 30 minute sessions into one.
This course will have you designing, developing and planning training activities including course designs for nationally recognised training (units of competency), as well as lesson planning for groups and individual learners.
It will include creating plans for both traditional classroom style learning and workplace learning.
This involves participating in validation meetings including the validation of 3 assessment tools before they’ve been used to assess students, and validation of 3 assessment tools after they have been used to assess students. You’ll get to scrutinise the decisions made by other assessors (which is a great learning experience!).
This is about being an assessor. You will discover that assessment is so much more than just marking exams. You will learn how being a qualified assessor is an important and powerful responsibility to hold.
To achieve this qualification, you need to conduct 6 assessments for 3 students across 2 units of competency, including a recognition of prior learning (RPL) assessment.
This includes activities where reasonable adjustments are made, and reflection and improvement of one’s own performance is undertaken.
It is important we offer a realistic picture of what is involved in the course, so you can
plan and prepare for the course.
Remember, you are not on your own; while we cannot create the learning environment for you, we promise we will support you in your learning and assessment journey.
