The TAESS00026 Foundation Skills Integration Skill Set Supersedes and is equivalent to the TAESS00009 – Address Foundation Skills in Vocational Practice Skill Set.

What is a Skill-set?

A Skill-set is a set of units of competency from a nationally recognised Training Package found on Training.gov.au.

It’s is not a full qualification, nor is it a random bunch of units awarded as a Statement of Attainment.

A skill-set has its own code and title, just like a qualification, and has a specific set of (usually 2 – 4) units.

Why would I get a Skill-set? Why not a full qualification?

A full qualification might take up to a year or more to finish. Some jobs require a specific set of skills only (and nationally recognised skills too). So skill-sets are able to get you those specific skills that you might need for a job quicker than doing a full qualification.

This approach is more:

  • Targeted
  • Streamlined
  • Cost effective
  • Efficient

What is the TAESS00026 Foundation Skills Integration Skill Set?

This Skill-set is made up of 3 units. These are outlined below with a brief description of how you’re assessed.

TAELLN421 Integrate core skills support into training and assessment

In this unit the individual must support people’s core skills development in 2 training sessions and 2 assessment events.

TAELLN422 Use foundation skills resources, strategies and advice

In this unit the individual must use foundational skill resources, training strategies and advice at least once, during training or assessment delivery.

TAELLN423 Integrate employability skills support into training and assessment

In this unit you must integrate employability skill support into 2 training sessions and 2 assessments.

You might notice that each unit involves training and assessment. In this course, we will observe you delivering training.

Typically via video recording. You can link these assessments together too, so the training sessions you conduct can be used for all 3 units.

Do I need to hold this Skill-set?

If you are involved in teaching/assessing anything from the FSK – Foundation Skills Training Package – yes.

In November 2019 version 2.0 of the FSK – Foundation Skills Training Package was released. With it came new requirements for anyone teaching and assessing units from this training package. This included the requirement to hold what was previously the TAESS00009 Address Foundation Skills in Vocational Practice Skill Set.

Previously, like most other VET courses, FSK trainers just needed the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment plus industry skills and experience.

The current equivalent of TAESS00009 is TAESS00026.

What is the FSK Training Package?

It includes three qualifications:

  • FSK10219 – Certificate I in Skills for Vocational Pathways
  • FSK10119 – Certificate I in Access to Vocational Pathways
  • FSK20119 – Certificate II in Skills for Work and Vocational Pathways

These are quite basic, entry level qualifications typically designed for individuals who need to develop foundation skills to access a further vocational learning pathway.

What are the requirements for FSK Teachers/Assessors?

They must:

  • satisfy the requirements for assessors in applicable vocational education and training legislation, frameworks and/or standards
  • have sound knowledge of the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF)
  • have demonstrable expertise, knowledge and skills in the vocational contextualisation and assessment of digital technology
  • hold the following ( or equivalent )
    • TAESS00009 Address Foundation Skills in Vocational Practice Skill Set (TAESS00026 is the most current equivalent of TAESS00009)
    •  or  a higher level education qualification, such as the TAE80113 Graduate Diploma of Adult Language, Literacy and Numeracy Practice (and its equivalent TAE70111); or Bachelor of Education, Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma of Education, or higher. This may include qualifications relating to TESOL, adult education or vocational education.

Where did we get this from? Each FSK unit of competency has it in the Assessment Conditions section – see an example here (scroll right down to the end of the document).

Would I get RPL in this skill set if I already hold the TAE40116 or TAE40122 Cert IV?

If you hold TAELLN411 Address adult language, literacy and numeracy skills, and either the TAE40110, TAE40116 or TAE40122 then there is likely to be Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for you.
