RPL means Recognition of Prior Learning. It is an assessment process that assesses a person’s formal and informal learning (such as work experience) against the units of competency in a course. Credit transfer is when a person has already been awarded competency in one or more units from another training provider. If someone is awarded RPL or Credit Transfer then they do not have to do that part of the course.
To be granted RPL, a thorough assessment has to be undertaken by an assessor to ensure that a person meets all criteria in a unit of competency. This assessment is based on evidence provided by that person. Where evidence is over 12 months old (for example, you have a relevant qualification that you achieved 10 years ago) we would need to see evidence that you have maintained the ‘currency’ of your skills. (i.e. used those skills in the workplace in the last 12 months).
