In this Accellier Community Professional Development Webinar, special guest Darlene McLennan, Manager of the Australian Disability Clearinghouse on Education and Training (ADCET) joins us to discuss supporting students with disability in Vocational Education and Training (VET).

In the webinar, Darlene emphasised the importance of creating a sense of belonging for students and addressing the barriers students may face. She discussed legal obligations under the Disability Standards for Education and the RTO Standards, and highlighted the benefits of Universal Design for Learning (UDL).

Darlene explained the three principles of UDL:

• multiple means of engagement (the why)
• multiple means of representation (the what)
• and multiple means of action and expression (the how)

The webinar also covered reasonable adjustments, emphasising the importance of communication and collaboration with students and the importance of creating accessible content and checking for accessibility.
