We receive a lot of calls and emails from people who still hold the older TAE40110 version of the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and want to upgrade it so they can continue teaching at TAFE and other Registered Training Organisations (RTO).
People in this situation typically achieved their qualification around 10 years ago. They often did some teaching at a TAFE/RTO and then other life and career circumstances took them in a different direction.
The upgrade process from TAE40110 to TAE40116 is considerably more straightforward than moving to the latest TAE40122 version.
Just look at the last 2 digits.
TAE40110 = 2010
TAE40116 = 2016
TAE40122 = 2022
The lack of equivalent units in the latest TAE40122 version of the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment make it significantly more time consuming to upgrade to. Therefore, people scrambled to get the TAE40116 version while they still could. This allowed them to meet the requirements for trainers and assessors without having to jump through all the TAE40122 hoops.
Enrolments are no longer accepted into TAE40116 though, so a lot of people who might have been out of the loop for the last 8 or so years might have missed out on the opportunity to get the TAE40116.
They are often told their only option is the get the new TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment version.
Personally, I’d consider this a ‘temporary’ measure. Someone who’s been out of the Vocational Education and Training (VET) training and assessing game for 8 or more years would benefit from upgrading fully to the latest qualification.
This is, however, a great option to get ‘back in the game’ sooner, buying you some time to upgrade to TAE40122 without feeling rushed to get TAE40116.
Astute readers will observe that the Standards for RTOs (which stipulate these requirements) state that it is permissible for a trainer and assessor to hold:
You can’t do the TAELLN411 and TAEASS502 versions of those units anymore, but you can complete their successors:
These are:
Yes. These can be completed and issued as a statement of attainment, to cover you while you upgrade the remainder of the TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, or as a standalone statement of attainment.
Please let us know if you have any questions about your specific circumstances and our TAE experts will help find the most appropriate pathway for you.
