In this free Accellier Professional Development session, Jasmin explores Learning as a Core Skill.
Jasmin shifts the focus from the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) levels and toward the fundamental factors that influence adult education.
A reflective, question-based approach was used to examine how educators can support learner identity, motivation, and the ability to transfer prior knowledge to new contexts.
The webinar breaks down the ACSF’s six key focus areas and its guiding principles emphasising that learning is an active, socially constructed, and goal-directed process.
Jasmin encourages teachers to foster a “culture of curiosity” and aims to help educators move beyond the “how long” of the learning journey to understand “what it’s made of.”

SLIDES HANDOUTLearning starts with how we see ourselves. A student’s self-esteem and awareness of their own strengths and weaknesses directly impact how open they are to new ideas. When teachers help students identify their internal “why,” it creates a much stronger drive for mastery than any external requirement or grade ever could.
The environment plays a huge role in this journey. For learning to be effective, it needs to be a socially connected and active process where students feel safe taking risks. This means creating a space where so-called “silly” questions are welcomed and failing safely is seen as a necessary step toward growth.
Success also relies on clear purpose and mutual responsibility. When both the trainer and the learner are committed to a specific goal, the process becomes more transparent. Connecting new concepts to familiar life experiences and existing skills helps bridge the gap and genuine collaboration ensures that students are truly problem-solving together rather than just splitting up a to-do list.
