After 1 July 2025, people who hold the old TAE40110 version of the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, are permitted to train and assess at an RTO/TAFE, even if they didn’t do the extra units to ‘upgrade.’
Yes.
The new Standards for RTOs (the regulations which establish these rules) will take full regulatory effect from 1 July 2025.
These Standards include a new Credential Policy.
You can access the Credential Policy here.
Once you download the above document, see below heading “1A. Training and assessment credentials” which states:
To deliver training and assessment, including making assessment judgements, the person must hold one of the following credentials:
According to the Government, it’s to “alleviate VET workforce pressures and to align with the latest Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40122).”
No. According to the Government, “individuals who hold the 2010 version of the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40110) will be able to deliver training and assessment without needing to hold the 2 additional units of competency in addressing adult language, literacy and numeracy skills and designing and developing assessment tools.”
That’s great! You’re even more up to date. You will still be able to continue training and assessing at an RTO without needing to upgrade for the foreseeable future.
While the new credential policy is quite clear that you don’t need to upgrade from a regulatory perspective, your employer may still be at liberty to set policies and requirements to only employ people with more current and up to date qualifications.
If you’re serious about training and assessing in the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector, and you still have an old TAE40110, it’s probably a good idea to do the latest TAE40122 version anyway.
At least now the pressure is off to rush into it.
