A self-assessment tool complements a good Registered Training Organisation (RTO) compliance program.
This tool was created by us to suit our needs and circumstances and you are most welcome to use and adapt it for your own RTO’s needs.
Our self-assessment tool comes in two packages Google Docs (easily downloadable as a Microsoft Word Doc too) and Trello.
While logged into your Google account, go to ‘File > Make a Copy’ (alternatively, download it as a Word Document).
Google Docs is fantastic because you can tag, comment and collaborate with your team on compliance tasks
The same review tool is available as a Trello template.
We use Trello for building out all sorts of internal systems. We love it for it’s flexibility, collaboration and ability to integrate with our other tools and systems.
This links to a ‘kanban’ style board where you can progressively drag each compliance review task into the done column, as you complete it.
(you can fully use this this tool with a free Trello account).
This template is sort of like a Gantt Chart and it will help you plan out what compliance activities you will do each month throughout a 12 month period.
RTO COMPLIANCE PLANNING WORKSHEET
The Student Experience model is a great way of grouping the Standards for RTOs into phases of the student journey. Sometimes I find important aspects of the standards can get a little lost in the Student Experience model.
The Standards for RTOs were written with their own logical order and grouping. Our tool follows that systematically giving you confidence that you’re not missing anything important.
If you do like the Student Experience model, however, try the ASQA tool provided below!
The Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) also have a good tool available for self-assessment against the Standards for RTOs. Although their tool is a little frustrating because it requires the review to be done in one sitting (you cannot save the form). So they have also created a word-document version for download here too.
